About Us
First United Methodist Church has been around since 1872. Back then, there were no lightbulbs, no cars to drive to church, and certainly no social media feeds to scroll. A small group of Christians got together to create something that would last—a church where people could grow in faith and connect with their community.
Fast forward over 150 years, and here we are. A lot has changed since those early days (thank goodness for indoor plumbing and coffee, right?), but some things haven’t. We’re still here, gathering as a community, loving God, and working to make a difference in the world.
We know how challenging it can be to shape a meaningful life in a world that seems to pull your family—and your heart—in a million different directions. That’s why we’re here. Whether you’re raising kids, chasing grandkids, navigating retirement, or figuring out your next step, we’re committed to helping you and your loved ones find a deeper sense of purpose.

Our Community Culture
We focus on Jesus.
At the heart of everything we do is Jesus. His life, teachings, and love guide how we worship, how we serve, and how we live. We don’t have all the answers, but we believe Jesus shows us the way to a life of purpose, grace, and hope. Whether you’re new to faith or have followed Jesus your whole life, there’s always more to discover about Him, and we’d love to journey with you.
We embrace questions.
Many churches today seem afraid of questions, but we believe they’re essential to a vibrant, growing faith. Jesus never turned away someone who asked a tough question—in fact, He often was the one asking the questions. In the Gospels, Jesus asked over 300 questions to provoke thought, challenge assumptions, and draw people into deeper reflection. Questions like, “Who do you say I am?” or “Why do you worry?” remind us that faith isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about engaging with life’s biggest questions. We want to follow His example. Whether you’re curious, skeptical, or somewhere in between, we welcome your questions. Faith grows when we’re willing to ask, listen, and wrestle with the unknown. Here, it’s okay to wonder, doubt, and explore—no perfect faith required.
We are a church for all ages.
From toddlers to retirees and everyone in between, our church is a place where all generations come together. We believe in building relationships across ages because we’re stronger and richer when we learn from one another. We put faith above politics.
In a world that often feels divided, we strive to be a place of unity. Our church is made up of people who lean left, people who lean right, and people who land somewhere in between—and that’s how we like it. Jesus Himself had followers across the political spectrum of His day, from the zealots who wanted to overthrow Rome to tax collectors who worked for the empire. What brings us together isn’t our politics; it’s the love of Jesus and His call to love one another, even when we don’t always agree. Here, we focus on what unites us rather than what divides us.
We think faith should lead to action.
Faith isn’t something to keep on a shelf; it’s meant to be lived out. That’s why we’re committed to serving our community and the world beyond. Locally, we support our schools, offer a small pantry to help those struggling with food insecurity, and dedicate the offerings from our biggest services—Easter and Christmas—to bless others. Globally, we partner with churches in Costa Rica and Mozambique to make a difference together. Whether it’s through mission projects, lending a helping hand, or simply showing up for people in need, we believe that following Jesus means putting love into action.
