Leadership Council
Our Leadership Council is responsible for protecting and championing the vision and values of First UMC Blue Springs. The Council meets generally on the third Tuesday of each month, plus additional times as necessary.
Leadership Council Responsibilities:
The Leadership Council absorbs all responsibilities of the administrative roles/groupings defined in the United Methodist Book of Discipline (SPRC, Trustees, Administrative Board, Nominations, Finance) including:
-
Approve the Annual Budget.
-
Approve the hiring of employees.
-
Annual review of the Lead Pastor.
-
Approve all land acquisitions, facility construction and significant legal obligations.
-
When a special need exists, the Board can create a task force consisting of a sub-group of the board and/or other church members. This would include the election of new members to the Leadership Board.
- Actively pursue learning opportunities as it relates to a large church structure and development. This could include books, conferences and other learning tools.
The Leadership Council consists of the Lead Pastor and 9 lay members of First UMC Blue Springs and is voted on by the Nominations Committee. All lay members serve a rotating three-year term.
Members are always welcome to observe leadership council meetings. If you’d like to submit an agenda item for approval, call the church office or talk to our board chair for more details.
We’re prayerfully seeking church members who have a heart for our mission and a willingness to dream, discern, and make bold decisions for the future of First UMC. If you or someone you know is energized by the idea of shaping the next chapter of our church’s story—and you’re ready to serve with humility, hope, and a collaborative spirit—we’d love to hear from you.
